Great job, Hajee! Your story reminded me of living on the north campus of Jiangxi Medical College in Nanchang, China when I taught there. The aunties would ask me questions, too, and sometimes they would say embarrassing things as I walked away, thinking I did not understand them. But my favorite conversations were with children. One little boy with a round face would ask me "Who are you?" And I wrongly assumed he was asking me "How are you?" He got really impatient with me and stomped his foot and said again, "No! Who are you?" When I realized he actually wanted to know my name, I told him, and we became good friends from then on. I loved your story, and you did a nice job writing this in English. Very sweet memories.

I love this!!!!!!!!!! Also, I’m wondering if the aunties feel any pleasure in having the attention turned on them when it’s so rare to have a younger person ask them such questions in their middle age. I wonder if I will become an annoying auntie when I become “auntie age” too….

Thanks for reading! I'm so glad you like it. Actually More aunties are getting a bit nervous about bumping into me haha, as they don't usually meet young folks like me. But 7 of them are really glad to have someone to chat with. They've shared some life stories that really impressed me, along with their current worries and challenges. This has piqued my interest in women's life narratives. Even though I haven't returned home these years, I still keep in touch with them online occasionally. As for the last sentence you said, I'm curious too haha.

that’s amazing! i always feel a little bit bad at how aunties are usually dismissed as annoying/trivial but we will all get there when we reach that age.. thanks for sharing again! ^^
